The NIE is your Spanish tax and identity number. You will be asked for it in almost any official or financial step in Spain.

Do I need to travel to Spain?

No. We prepare your application and arrange your appointment at the Spanish Consulate that covers you in the UK. You attend there instead of travelling to Spain.

Do you attend the Consulate with me?

Not with NIEFY Essential: we prepare the application and arrange the appointment, and you attend in person. If you would rather not attend, NIEFY Fully Managed files the application for you through representation.

Why choose NIEFY Essential instead of NIEFY Fully Managed?

Because if you are happy to attend one appointment, there is no reason to pay for representation. NIEFY Essential also avoids the power of attorney, the notary and the apostille.

Which Consulate do I need?

It depends on where you live. You don't need to work it out: we determine it from your postcode when you complete the questionnaire.

What documents do I need?

Complete the form and we will tell you exactly what your case requires. We then prepare your full application pack and instructions.

What is the power of attorney and why do I need it?

It is the document authorising us to apply for the NIE on your behalf, and it is only needed for NIEFY Fully Managed. Granted before a UK notary it needs an apostille (Hague Convention) and, if in English, a sworn translation into Spanish.

How long does it take?

Appointment availability and processing times are set by the Spanish authorities and vary. If you need your NIE for a specific transaction, start as early as possible.

Does the NIE expire?

No. The NIE is a lifelong number: once issued it does not change. It is your tax reference to buy or sell property, inherit, invest or open a bank account in Spain.

Is my NIE guaranteed?

The decision to issue a NIE belongs to the competent Spanish authority, so it cannot be guaranteed. We prepare your application free of formal defects and guide you throughout.
